The COVID-19 pandemic remains to effect high school athletics across the state of Ohio. The winter state tournaments were unfortunately cancelled because of the virus. On the other hand, athletes may get the spring season they are longing for.
On Thursday, April 9, 2020 the OHSAA released a tentative schedule for the spring sports season. If it is safe for Governor DeWine to reopen schools, the OHSAA has shortened the spring season to extend into June. But, if schools remain closed for the rest of the school year, the spring season will also be cancelled. With the stay-at-home order in place until May 1, schools are looking to reopen on May 4 with spring sports officially beginning on May 9. Sectional tournaments would then begin as early as the end of May and the season would officially conclude on June 27. Although, if specific sites are shut down due to the Governor’s orders, all sites will then be shut down and the spring tournaments will not be held. Hopefully things continue to get better and these athletes can get their season back!
