Interview with Issac Wilson

By Kage

I interviewed Isaac Wilson, a Junior who plays football at linebacker for the Wauseon Indians. Issac had a terrific season for Wauseon in 2019. He recorded 79.5 tackles and returned an interception for a touchdown. I asked him the following questions. How has the coronavirus affected you? How are you staying in shape? Who is your favorite sports hero? What is your favorite sports memory? What made you fall in love with your sport? He said, Coronavirus has made it so I have more time to spend with my family 2) I have been working out with my dad and my brother, and whenever it’s a nice day out I either shoot hoops or do some route running with my brother 3)My favorite sports hero is Ray Lewis, because of the aggressive approach he had to playing football 4)My favorite sports moment is when we came back and won against Patrick Henry. It was also memorable since that was the night we were honoring Thane. 5)The thing that made me fall in love with my sports was my older brother Brendan. He was always playing basketball and football with me in the backyard, and it then turned to me falling in love with both sports. Thanks Isaac on the great insight and congrats on a terrific season! Go Indians!

Interview with Noah Tester

I interviewed Senior Noah Tester of Wauseon High School’s football, basketball and track team. I asked him a variety of questions. I asked how the coronavirus has affected him and he said, “It has affected me by having me not get to go out and workout with my friends. I haven’t seen a bunch of my friends since the outbreak happened”. I then asked how he was staying in shape during this time and he said, “I have weights and a basketball hoop at my house, so every morning I will lift then play basketball if it is nice outside”. I then asked who his all time favorite sports hero was, he said, “My favorite sports hero is Russell Westbrook because of how hard he plays on both sides of the ball and plays 110% all the time”. I then asked him what made him fall in love with his three sports and he said, “How you are always apart of a family. A bond that can never be broken whether it’s on the field or the court. You have guys that will never leave your side and are in it til the end. Having kids look up to you, especially when you’re a senior. It makes you feel good about yourself”. I cannot wait to see what the future has in store for star athlete Noah Tester! Good luck and I wish the best for you. Go Indians!

Interview of WHS Senior

On Tuesday, April 21, I spoke to Wauseon senior, Eliana Barajas, about her time at Wauseon High School. Over her four years at Wauseon, she was a member of the girls basketball and girls softball programs. Eliana’s favorite memory from her high school career was her senior year of basketball because of the winning season that they had. We also talked about what she enjoyed the most from being apart of the athletic programs and she said, “I enjoyed having a big supporting community. There are many people who attend games and I love seeing everyone in the stands supporting our athletics.” We then spoke about COVID-19 and how it has affected the remainder of her senior year. Eliana expressed that she was, “in a state of feeling so many emotions. I’m mainly in shock and confused why it happened to my class and why it even happened to begin with. Everything feels so surreal, but everything happens for a reason and everyone’s health is the main priority.” Although this pandemic has caused her remaining time at Wauseon to be cut short, she is excited about her future plans and what’s in store for her next. Eliana plans on attending Southeastern University in Florida in the fall and she will major in Business. She stated,”I’m so excited to start my college journey in an atmosphere filled with people who want to grow, not only academically, but spiritually as well.” Despite everything that is going on, she is thankful for her time at Wauseon High School, but is also excited to start a new chapter in her life. OHSAA COVID-19 Update

The COVID-19 pandemic remains to effect high school athletics across the state of Ohio. The winter state tournaments were unfortunately cancelled because of the virus. On the other hand, athletes may get the spring season they are longing for.

On Thursday, April 9, 2020 the OHSAA released a tentative schedule for the spring sports season. If it is safe for Governor DeWine to reopen schools, the OHSAA has shortened the spring season to extend into June. But, if schools remain closed for the rest of the school year, the spring season will also be cancelled. With the stay-at-home order in place until May 1, schools are looking to reopen on May 4 with spring sports officially beginning on May 9. Sectional tournaments would then begin as early as the end of May and the season would officially conclude on June 27. Although, if specific sites are shut down due to the Governor’s orders, all sites will then be shut down and the spring tournaments will not be held. Hopefully things continue to get better and these athletes can get their season back!
